9th of September - La Tierra Salvaje: exhibition in Botkyrka, December-March
La Tierra Salvaje - Valeria Montti Colque, Marcus Mårtenson and Dilomprizulike. Botkyrka konsthall, December 13 - March 14 2009.

Flyer för La Tierra Salvaje

At the end of 2008, artists Valeria Montti Colque, Marcus Mårtenson and Dilomprizulike will meet in Botkyrka konsthall. Valeria and Marcus are working in different ways with gathered material and objects that have been forgotten or thrown away. By reshaping these objects different figures and forms appear. They become sculptures, installations and parts of performances. In Valeria and Marcus' art the thrown-away objects are charged with new meanings.

The Nigeran artist Dilomprizulike has been called "the Junkman of Africa". He as well works with material found on the street, and mostly with old clothing and fabrics. 2006 he participated in the Moderna Museet exhibition Africa Remix with the art piece Waiting for Bus, an installation made of found articles where the composite figures look like they are trapped in the middle of their own culture and an imposed Western civilisation.

By bringing these artists together in a collaborative project in Botkyrka konsthall we want to discuss issues of abundance, recycling, the importance of symbols, mysticism and environment. How will the work and the exhibition be affected by Sweden and Nigeria's different prerequisites? This is also an exhibition project that engages you as a visitor with the invitation to submit material; furniture, clothing or other objects that you were planning to throw. In our exhibition they can get new, undreamed-of meanings!

16th of August - Installation at Sergels torg, Culture festival, Stockholm
Marcus and Valeria will build a huge installation made out of found object on Sergels Torg during the Stockholm culture festival between the 12th and 16th of august 2008.

23rd of April - MM in RAW VISION art magazine
This is taken from issue 56 of RAW VISION art magazine, from a review of the Internal Guidance Systems show that I am in from Portland Oregon:

Artikel från RAW

"RAW VISON MAGAZINE REVIEW ISSUE .. 56
Internal Guidance Systems- Mark Woolley Gallery, Portland, Oregon May 2006

By turns exuberant and disturbing, the many faces peering from resurrected trash attest to the power of raw emotion when filtered through the imagination. Curated by painter Anne Grgich of Seattle, Washington and British author and art historian Colin Rhodes, Internal Guidance Systems (IGS) draws together visionary artists who share a self-propelled, inner imperative to fashion their own worlds.

Grgich has gathered work that demonstrates a highly idiosyncratic approach to making wondrous things from mundane materials. Each artist expresses either unabashed outrage at the state of the world or celebrates its magic, as do the talisman-like bottle cap snakes of Mr. Imagination.

Both commentary and prophecy leap from an assemblage of paintings on scrap wood by Swedish artist, Marcus Mårtenson, whose deceptively simple imagery conveys a disturbing glimpse of America as seen by an outsider:near a bucolic scene of horses in a meadow, an arched panel with a man wearing a turban and camouflage holds an automatic weapon, the wood riddled with holes. Innocence and menace also reside uncomfortably close to one another in the textile works by British artist Delaine Le Bas. Below a skeleton standing on the edge of a pastoral scene complete with pastel rabbit, and glittering sequins, polka dot fawns leap across a field of blue cloth near floating skulls, and disembodied faces, hinting at dangers lurking beneath placid surfaces.

Equally taut with tension are the child-like figures surrounded by cryptic marks, their wide eyes wrought with fevered energy painted on rough wood by Salt Lake City artist Lyle Carbajal.

Paintings on fabric by Washington state artist Paul Gasoi vibrate with electrical intensity. Heavy black lines and vibrant colors form intricate patterns that enclose, frame or form human and animal faces with sombre or perplexed expressions.

Obsessively tidy, repetitive mandala-like patterns of faces and erotic images are drawn with ink on layers of tissue by Pennsylvanian artist Houston Ripley.

Arts redemptive power is evident in this show currently touring the United States.

Valeria Montti-Colque och Marcus Mårtenson samarbetar i performancekonstgruppen ”The Tranzformers”.
