So the refugees have been pouring out of war torn Syria and all the European countries are starting to freak out. Lets just say this: These people are families with nowhere to go. They can’t stay where they are because its too dangerous. It disgusts me to see some politicians use them as pawns in a bigger game to promote their own xenophobic and racist agendas. They need shelter and they need to be cared for. This is the only way to go. Im glad Sweden has opened its doors to them and hopefully they will let more in later. I also hope that more European countries and the US will step up and open their borders for the refugees as well. Instead of just putting up barbed wire and walls of cops. Its a disgrace. On the 10th of december I will be in a group show at the Lars Bohman gallery called “Gimmie shelter” which will start on december 10th and run till december 20th.Show opens at 5pm and runs till 7pm on the 10th. Half of the profits from the show will go to Stadsmissionen and their work in caring for refugees. The image is an Ethiopian icon showing the holy family as refugees.Peace.:

Here are some old flics from Geneva where I lived back in the days. These are some of my homies from the Ginebra Tribe as we called ourselves. Heres a a tune from those days called “Do the right thing.” Makes me sad that racism seems to be spreading all through Europe these days. Increase the peace and try to love one another. Sounds hard but it really isn’t.

“Boys learn that their connection to mother will emasculate them, turn them into mamas boys. And so they learn to act as if they have made that leap by pushing away from their mothers. Along the way they suppress all the feelings they associate with the maternal-compassion, nurturance, vulnerability, dependency. This suppression and repudiation is the origin of the boy code. Its what turns happy, energetic, playful and emotionally expressive 5 year olds into sullen, withdrawn and despondent 9 year olds. In the recent spate of bestselling books about boys development, psychologists like William Pollack…and others argue that from an early age boys are taught to refrain from crying, to suppress their emotions, never to display vulnerability. As a result , boys feel effeminate not only if they express their emotions, but even if they feel them. In their bestseller “Raising Cain”, Kindlon and Thompson, describe “a culture of cruelty” in which peers force other boys to deny their emotional needs and disguise their feelings. Its no wonder that so many boys end up feeling emotionally isolated” – Michael Kimmel from the book Guyland

“As Will Hunting shows us, a man cannot connect with others and remain cut off from his own heart. Intimacy creates too many raw feelings. Contending with them is requisite work for staying close. Yet the stoicism of disconnection, the strategy of avoiding ones feelings, is precisely the value in which boys are schooled… Empathy to oneself and others lies in a realm that has remained devalued and unexplored-the domain of women…Both the roots of Wills pain and also his entitlement to run from it, inflicting it instead, on those he most cares for, lie at the heart of patriarchy- the masculine code into which all boys are inducted.” – Terrence Real
