Saw that movie Apocalypto last nite. Quite a brutal portrayal of the fall of Mayan civilization. A good action flick although the violence was a bit gratuitous at times. Also I dont think this movie is historically accurate. I love the mayan culture and have been inspired by their artwork for a long time. Their rich shamanic spirituality and knowledge of numbers and astronomy never got shown in this movie. This is unfortunate since one can easily get the impression that these guys where a bunch of savages that needed saving by the white man which is a bunch of bullshit.

What about “thou shall not kill” dad?

Filed under: Main — Mackanlee @ 2:34 am

I saw the movie born on the 4th of july again the other day and there is a strong scene where Tom Cruise has come home from the war and is in a wheel chair. Hes drunk off his ass and has come home in the evening, frustrated and mad. Hes never had sex and now hes paralyzed from the waist down leaving him impotent and robbed of his manhood. He confronts his conservative parents screaming that the war is bullshit and they refuse to listen. Starting to cry he asks his father: Whatever happend to “Thou shalt not kill” dad? The central and most important passage from the judeo-christian bibel that teaches that killing is a dead end. The American presidents proclaim their faith in god and jesus and the bible but still justify their war. These two things can never and will never go hand in hand. Its a disgrace that these warmongering leaders claim to be people of faith while sending young boys out to die in battlefields.

This is taken from issue 56 of RAW VISION art magazine, from a review of the Internal Guidance Systems show that I am in from Portland Oregon:

“Both commentary and prophecy leap from an assemblage of paintings on scrap wood by Swedish artist, Marcus MÃ¥rtenson, whose deceptively simple imagery conveys a disturbing glimpse of America as seen by an outsider: near a bucolic scene of horses in a meadow, an arched panel with a man wearing a turban and camouflage holds an automatic weapon, the wood riddled with holes”.
